Martha Hudson was born on August 18, 1858, in Atascosa County, Texas, to William and Jane Hudson. Her father was a farmer who owned $3,000 of real estate and $1,600 of personal property by 1870. She grew up and attended school in San Felipe, Texas. She married Edward Braden on July 26, 1876, and the couple had no children. They lived in San Antonio, Texas, and her husband worked in the plumbing industry. He died on September 14, 1914. She remained in San Antonio, and she helped care for her elderly mother until at least 1920. By 1930, she was living with her sister Catherine, and she owned a house valued at $4,000. She died of chronic myocarditis in Kinney County, Texas, on May 11, 1941.
