Thomas Calvin Fisher was born in April 1841 in Pennsylvania to Thomas and Rachel Fisher. His father was a merchant who owned $40,000 of real estate and $10,000 of personal property by 1860. He grew up and attended school in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and by 1860, he was working as a clerk. He enlisted in the Union army on August 13, 1862, and he mustered in as a private in Company C of the 125th Pennsylvania Infantry later that day. The regiment took part in the Battle of Antietam and the Battle of Chancellorsville, and he mustered out on May 18, 1863. He returned to Huntingdon after leaving the army, and he married a woman named Isabelle. He worked as a merchant, and by 1870, he owned $18,000 of real estate and $7,000 of personal property. He died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 24, 1883.
