Rosalie A. Martin (maiden name: White) was born on January 13, 1841, in Mississippi to Clark C. White. Her father was a farmer who owned $10,000 of real estate by 1850. She grew up and attended school in Marshall County, Mississippi, and she married John D. Martin on November 18, 1857. Their son John was born around 1858. They lived in Chickasaw, Tennessee, and her husband worked as a physician. By 1860, they owned $80,000 of real estate and $25,000 of personal property.
Her husband served in the Confederate army, and he died in the Battle of Corinth on October 3, 1862. On September 27, 1869, she married Andrew J. Martin, the younger brother of her first husband. They had at least four children: Mary, born around 1872; Andrew, born around 1876; Shelton, born around 1878; and Rosadelle, born around 1881. They lived in Shelby County, Tennessee, and Andrew worked as a lawyer. By 1870, they owned $1,000 of personal property. They moved to Desoto County, Mississippi, in the 1870s.
They returned to Shelby County in the late 1800s, and her husband died on May 26, 1895. She remained in Memphis, Tennessee, with her children until at least 1920. She died on August 6, 1922.
