My Dear Mother
As Uncle W & Aunt Emily are now at this place and having still 10 days leave I have determined to spend it with them. They are keeping house in a very quiet part of the town & are very pleasantly situated. You will be surprised to hear that she has another little son, born only 10 days before the evacuation of Ringold Aunt Emily had a very hard time of it but has now entirely recovered. Martin & Mary are two very interesting children Mary a little beauty. / Jennie & Donnie the pictures of health. poor little Lilla I am sorry to say looks very delicate, although she has not been sick.
Brother John's sword & trunk I will leave with Aunt Emily as this place is about as safe as any, and they will probably remain here for some time. I did not go out to see Aunt Margaret, as it was raining very hard while I was in Marietta. I have no idea what I will do this winter You need not be surprised of at my resigning at any time.
Every body here seem to be in excellent / spirits, no one doubting our final success.
To me the future looks very dark. I wish I knew what was best to be done. We must however await the result of time. I never felt so lonely before in my life. truly I am in this far distant land without a friend, no one to sympathize with me in my troubles. Happiness, I have none. How I wish you were where I could hear from you regularly. I hope however all will be well in the end. Aunt Emily & children send much love. My love to Aunt / Kate and all at home
