William W. Witherspoon to William W. MacKall, 4 November 1863
Head Qrs. 36th Miss. Inftry.
Nov. 4th 1863.
Genl.
I have the honor most respectfully to represent that I am intimately acquainted with Lt. D. S. Donelson, and know him to be an intelligent and moral young gentleman with fine business qualifications. He was A. I. Genl, on Col. J. D. Martins Staff when that Officer commanded the 4th Brigade in Littles Division Army of the West, was afterwards A.A.A.Genl. for myself, while commanding your Brigade, after the re-organization of the Army at Unterford Miss, in Oct, 1862. Lt. Donelson desires a staff position, and I would respectfully recommend him to your favorable consideration.
I am Genl. Very respectfully
Your obt. Sevt
W. W. Witherspoon.
Col. 36th Miss. Inftry.
Brig. Genl. Mackall.
