James H. Jenkins Poem, 1 May 1863
Tribute to the memory of R. F. Lucket

Adjt. Ninth Regt Texas Infantry, who fell mortaly wounded at the Battle of Murfreesboro Dec 31st 1862 and died Jany 1st 1863 his remains were entered in the churchyard near Murfreesboro now in the hands of the Enemy.

Let those who mourn the gallant dead,
And pass just honors to the great,
Prepare their purest tears to shed,
And mourn with us ore his sad fate.

He's resting now beneath the clod,
Where mossy ceaders gently wave,
And fremen press the tender plod,
Of green grass ore his early grave.

He's resting now in sweet repose,
From earthly ills and perils free,
In spite the horde of vandal foes,
And sounding notes of revalie.

He heard to avenge the wailing cries,
Of dixies mourning daughters,
And gave his life a sacrifice,
Pon freedoms bleeding altar.

Oh strangers think not lightly now,
Of him ore whose sleeping dust you tread,
A fairy hand hath decked his brow
But honor wreaths the unknown dead.

                                                Jenks.
