Obadiah Whittier
Obadiah Whittier was born on August 25, 1813, in Maine. He married Mary A. Wood, and they had at least eight children: Sarah, born around 1837; Greenleaf, born around 1839; Annette, born around 1841; Asa, born around 1843; Alvin, born around 1845; Hannah, born around 1847; Mary, born around 1851; and Isabella, born around 1854. They lived in Vienna, Maine, and he worked as a farmer. By 1850, he owned $3,500 of real estate. A decade later, he owned $2,000 of real estate and $1,145 of personal property.
 
He supported the Republican Party, and he was elected to the state legislature in 1866. By 1870, he was working as a life insurance agent, and he owned $1,500 of personal property. He died on December 11, 1888.
