Benjamin Louis Simpson Jr.
Benjamin Louis Simpson Jr. was born around 1847 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Benjamin and Sarah Simpson. His father was a ship carpenter who owned $2,000 of personal property by 1860. In the late 1860s, he served as a captain in the 8th Maryland National Guard.
 
He married Emily Parr around 1870, and they had at least four children: Ella, born around 1871; Arthur, born around 1872; Walter, born around 1875; and Mary, born around 1878. They lived in Baltimore, and he worked as a clerk. By 1880, he was working in the Baltimore Custom House. He moved to Washington, D.C., in the late 1800s and worked in the coal industry. He died in Washington on February 6, 1913.
