January the 10 1864
 
Dear Father
I seat my self this evning to answer your kind letter wich I recieved a bout five minuts a go and was glad to heare from you and to heare of you all being well
            Well I dont no as I halve eny thing new to write to you but I must tell you that we had a wright nice snow day a fore yesterday and to day I was out hunting rabbits and shot two with my revolver and had a big time we had them cooked for supper and they was most mity good they tasted a little secesh like but we did not mind that we eat them eny how Well we halve had a prety hard time this / winter we had to build two sets of winter quarters but we halve got prety good ones know if they leave us stay in them we can get a long very well this winter and if they dont we will haft to get a long the best way we can you need not be eny on easy about my reinlisting a gain for I dont think I shal at presant I think I will wait on till my time is out an then I may enlist a gain but it wont be ontill I get tierd of being at home and I dont think that will be very soon well I dont no as I halve very much more to write at presant the health in the company is very good at presant and has been for some time I got a letter from aunt betsy they other day they was all well 
 
            them boots that you got made for me I am very well pleased with them they are just the fit and I think they are very good boots well I gess I halve told you all I will close hoping these few lines will find you all as they have me well and hearty nothing more at presant but remain your
