David Bender was born around 1811 in Pennsylvania. He married Mary Rhodes, and they had at least six children: Ephraim, born around 1835; George, born on June 22, 1837; Elizabeth, born on September 14, 1839; Jefferson, born around 1841; Jackson, born around 1844; and Dallas, born on October 20, 1847. He worked as a farmer in North Beaver, Pennsylvania, and by 1860, he owned $1,050 of real estate and $1,200 of personal property. His wife died on February 28, 1868.
He supported the Democratic Party, and he served as a jury commissioner in the 1880s. By the early 1890s, local residents considered him “one of Lawrence county’s oldest and most respected citizens.” He died in North Beaver on August 7, 1894.
