Isaac M. Yoakum to James C. Yoakum, 15 November 1862
Louden Nov 15th 1862

Dear Brother
As Col. Nicholson is going to start home in a day or two I will drop you a few lines to let you know that I have not forgotten you. I have nothing of particular interest to write to you at present We are now in camp near Louden but expecting orders every day to leave here. I expect we will go to Murpeysborough when we leave this place We have had orders to detail a commissioned officer from each Company to go home and carry money and to do business for the Company. Lt Delk was detailed from this Company and I expect he will start in a few days I am going to send about two hundred dollars home by Col. Nicholson Sparrll Saunders paid the remainder of his note which was twenty six dollars. Thos Evans also paid the remainder of his which was seven dollars & seventy five cents / making in all thirty three dollars and seventy five cents going to Father. I will then have about one hundred dollars left for my own use I sold my pistol about three months ago and got seventy five dollars for it It was so heavy that I could not carry it with the other heavy things that I had to carry. Columbus I am going to see the General and if he will lett you take my place for a while til I can go home and recruit my health and attend to other needful business, you can come out with Lt Delk and it will not cost you any thing for he is going to bring recruits to fill the Company I do not want you to come unless you are perfectly willing for I do not want you to come here and be dissatisfied. If you come you had better bring about two suits of good clothes with you. if you do not come I want Mother to send me one pair of pants and two pair of socks. If you come / to take my place I have enough to last me till I can get home and I would rather have them there than here. my reason for wanting to be at home is that Father is now in a condition that he cannot attend to the cattle and horses and do himself justice, and more than that you know there are people in that country who would take advantage of him. I would would not feel any way uneasy if William Ward could stay there all the time but he cannot for he will stay out be called out in to the Armey pretty soon

I will write to you by Col. Nicholson and let you know what the Gen. says and then you can decide for yourself whether you will come or not. Write as soon as you get this letter

Your Brother Isaac /

P.S. I will send this letter by Lt. Delk, it will be two or three days before Col A. J. starts

I.M.Y

P.S. I have just been to see whether you can take my place and the Col. says that it is against orders to substitute one under age so you need not make any preparations to come.
I. M. Yoakum

If they will let you send a box to me I want you to have a good one made and put a lock to it and send it to me Have it made about the size of a common sized trunk
