Father & Mate
Our mornings male brought your letter of the 21st of ult & as ever I hasten to answer the same this evening We have had fair wether since I last wrote. But it hase rained a little to day. We have changed our camp again We are before Pettersburg about 6 miles towards Sitty point from where we were when I last wrote On the Rail Road. We have built us good quarters & now laying in resurve, About one half / mild from the Johnies There is some shelling near here. But as yet every thing is quet But you may expect soon to hear of a general play spell soon, prehaps before you rece this. Providing the weather will have it & as it is so far along now I think that wont bother. I may bee mustaken but I think that there will be rite smart fight soon We are all well at present, except Rey He remains about the same We have a splended house & a good fire plase in it. Allthou we made it all out of wood & mud, It is eaquel to / to one of brick or stone but more work to build of coarse I will give you a discripsion of our house & the way we built it. You see there is no tents used in the field but every soldier has one tent blanket 5 ft squair with buttons on 3 sides, so that we can button as menna of them to gather as we are a mind to. We use these for the roof of our houses & some of the boys use logs & build them as log houses. But we cut a pine tree and split out slabs about 9½ inches thick & 6 ft long & we sat them in the ground & then muded it / The size is 8 ft by 14 a pretty good size house We call it a stalkade way of building houses but we expect to leave it verry soon but we may not. We are willing to stay or go where we are orderd. But are contented hear. You said you had paid allmoust all of that money we boried of Rine Well pay it all & donot give your note to enna one & Remember never sign enna note or hand or become securety for enna one even one of your own boys I have never asked you for enna such a favor & there is no use in enna one else. I donot say this because I worry but I donot
