George L. Plumhoff to Robey A. Plumhoff, 6 April 1864
Wensday
New Orleans. April 6th 1864.

Dear Wife.
I take my pen this afternoon to let you know that I am enjoying excelent health and am in good spirits.

We are now with our company having gon up there day before yesterday at noon.

I received your letter all right. I was very glad to get the letter from Cincinnati and will return it in this.

There is a goodeal of talk again about our getting paid? but I dont know how twill be I think that we will not get our pay until the next pay day as tis now so late.

Capt Wood Mr Dunn or any one els from up there / have not yet come down. I hear that Sergent Johnson has left.

I understand that Mr Dunn will be kept at Springfield until they have no further use for him there as he gives perfect satisfaction in the office up there. I did'nt dont expect to get the Premium money until he comes down. he told me that he would either send the money to you or els bring it down to New Orleans to me. So dont give yourself any uneasiness on that score.

To day Dear Roby is the 6th of April and little Mary's birthday. She is now two years old to day. You see by this that though far far away that I dont forget / the dear ones at home but allways have them in mind May God in his mercy preserve & keep you from harm and bring us all safely togather at the close of this war
is the prayre of your loving

Husband,
Geo L. Plumhuff.

PS.               I was very near forgetting in your letter you desire me to come home on a furlough this summer. I think it impossible, furloughs are hard to get down here and if any are given, it will be to those who first came out with the Regiment & have not been home for 19 months, & there are lots of men (and in our Company too) who have not been home in that lenght of time. So do not think of it.

Your Own, George
