William S. Cook to Eliza A. Cook, 11 July 1862
July 11th 62
Dear Mother
I am going down to the Beaufort Hospital to-day or to-morrow and send this box by the next boat that goes. Will Barkerman sends some relics which he wishes you to keep for him. George Wikins sends some things for his folks. Mr. Saml Southard a bundle, he says you need not send them to the house as his "people" will come after it. Will Townsend has a bundle also you can easily get it to his Mother. You will think perhaps that I have sent a lot of trash—the old gray pants I thought you could fix them up for Tommy the cloth is still good—the old vest I esteem a relic because it has been through everything with me from the ascent of Mt. Washington up to time I was sick—treat it tenderly
Do not think because I am going into the Hospital again that I am worse at all. I am going down for the benefit of the sea air and have the privalege of coming up as soon as I am dissatisfied. If it is going to do me any good I shall go, there is no harm in trying. This is not a regular letter so I do not number it. I hope this will not be delayed—
Hoping this will find you all well I remain

Will
Direct your letters the same as ever to Newberne—I shall get them well enough.
