Dear Nan
I received your letter and wase glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well and that you was I joying your self so well there is nothing like it I wase down to church Sunday and I will tell you what they did there wase twenty five that did not commune They would not let us they that is the ealders said if we would come out and make a confession and say that we had done wrong and say that we had hurt the curch and then come back and take our seets and pay three dollars extry a year that they would take us in but you see that we dont do that they wont / wont giv us our certifickets and we told them that we would join some other church on examanation but they said if we would that they would prosicute us and all of the church I fear that there is some hard times drawing near they are to set a day some time soon and see if they cant fix it up in some way I will write and tell you what they do if they fix it up before I see you it is getting quite dry here it hante rained for over one weeke I hav been plowing for the last past weeke with two teams the horses and oxen both one man plow and drive both teames my self there wase a fine larg dwelling house burned up in our town the other nite it burned up evry thing that they had they did not get a thing saved only there evry day close they lost about three thousan dollars / The folks made it all up again I giv them three dollars there ware a house burned last evning in to miles of here he had evry thing that he had burnt up there was a man around trying to rase money to build him a house I give him one dollar and half
I finished plowing my corn ground to day I plowed a peas to day where my hos giv it up it wase the hardest pease that I ever plowed we planted three achers of corn to day and I hav nine more that I want to get it planted this weeke that is if it dont rain and we are all well the wheat around here is al most ne high I never saw it look as nice as it dose now there has been five houses and one farm burn in this neiborhood in the past tenn weekes there is a grate deal of sickness around here now bothe of young and old / and middle age dride bacon only brings four cts apound here and poor sale at that coffee is 25 a pound shugur fourteen cents apound eggs is 4 cts a dozen butter 11 cents a pound corn 20 cents a bushel oats 20 cents a bush wheat 10 a bushel tea 80 cents a quarter
It looks like rain to nite I hope that it will rain for it is quite dry now here
