Alexander R. Stires
Alexander R. Stires was born around 1822 in New Jersey. He married Elizabeth Tesher on May 12, 1854, in Northampton, Pennsylvania, and they had at least two children: Charles, born around 1859; and Homer, born around 1871. The family moved to Elida, Illinois, around 1855, and Stires earned a living as a farmer. In May 1866, he became the local postmaster. By 1870, he owned $2,000 of real estate and $600 of personal property. He died in Winnebago County, Illinois, on December 3, 1902.
