       I send this day by Adams Express C^o one hundred seventy ($170--) dollars amount due you for sale of Richards horse. I should have sent it before but the parties to whom I sold the horse to have but just been paid off.

           

I sent the amount of Richards pay in a check payable to the order of Mr Hardy some month ago but have not heard whether you have rec^d it or not. please send me a receipt for the horse, to Col C.A.R. Dimon, 1^st USVols Milwaukee Wisconsin. My regiment has been ordered on the frontier to fight the / Indians and as we leave to-day I must ask to be excused for writing so hurriedly.
