June the 14th 1862
catharine dear wife this morning being disappoind about Thomas going home to take these goods to you I rite a few more lines to you leaving us both well and hope it will find you all well when I rote this other letter I expected Thomas to start home to take his pony home as he has bought another one for 80 dollars and he is worth 100. Thomas Holcomb has to go home and he rides toms pony to bring his horse back
it is a very bad chance for us to go and tom holcomb cant take these goods and money to you so I shall hold them till I hear from you
you will rite to us that pegga [blot] billy is bad sick and doctor [blot] said for us to come and see [blot] last time and to come soon [blot] will be sure to show the [blot] the col. and [blot] lett us [blot] and stay as long as [blot] but if [blot] dont there is no chance for us [blot] before the year is out / unless the war ends and that is uncertain but do as you please about riting that but that is all the chance for us to go home that I have knowledge of so rite soon as possible and send the letter by mail direct it to Marshall po. Harrison co Texas so I must come to a close
