Thomas L. Hatton to Hugh Hatton, 14 August 1860
Philadelphia Aug 14th 1860
Dear Brother
I received your letter of the 12th this morning and was very glad to hear from you, and more so to hear that you are in the U. States Service. Myself and the rest of the family are well at present. All the rest of your friends are well at present, as far as I know. I received a letter from Capt Smith in regard to the settlement of your voyage it seems that your share is not settled yet on account of that claim of Slocum Cunningham & Co which the the Capt. refuses to pay untill he heard from you They are makeing a noise about it and he wrote to me to know what he should do about it and I sent him word to settle the voyage to the best advantage possible as the claim covers the whole amount comeing to you. I have not heard from him yet to know how he settled. I would like you to write to me and let me know how to direct a letter to you so as you can get it after you leave port.
Also let me know whether Jim / Blaney is with you and if not where you left him
Write before you leave if you can
Yours Affectionately
Thomas Hatton
