Sarah Yours of the 28th came at hand suspenders and the letter and I recieved a letter from you last week and should have answered it but you must know I have not much nuse to inform you of in these times so I will wright you what I can and let it go at that. You wish to know concerning my health now Sarah I am not verry sick and not verry well I have been acking as much ever scense I have been hear So you can see by that I am not verry sick but I am not able to do marching duty therefore I was sent hear to do light duty so you no need to worry your self nor take any notice of flying storys for thire is know dainger of me at presant and I hope thire will not be in the future so keep up good currage and do not dispond but look on the bright side until this rebellion is crushed out and all is peace wonce more
about a week ago our Regiment moved up the river about twenty five miles to guard the fords so at presant I am cut of from seaing any of them so for the last week I have been rather lonesome this week for I had drother be with them and go through the perrels and daingers of a sogers life then to be in a Hospital but I cannot stand the marching so I must stay whire I am for the presant but time dose not move of so lively here as it did with my regiment and furthermore I feel as if the regiment is whire I ought to be for let me do what I will hear it dose not seam as if I was helping put down this war but enuf of this so Mugga Brow has been through the odial and has become a Mother so much for Mugga and I hope she will get along well and then thire is Briget she has gust begund / the marrage life and you must tell hir when you see hir that I wish hir much joy and hapiness for Briget is a good girl and she has got my best wishes I should like to know in your next letter to me how John Eddy and his Nelly dear gets along more from curiosity then any thing else so you have got a circus comming to Taunton and you live on the opisute corner from whire it will be and I am glad you are agoing to let Henry go for I think it is best to let chrildren see such things and then thay are more likely to be good if you are onely smart enuf to work it right with them by letting them know that you let them go becaus thay are good chrildren and not let them go if they go to acting bad by that way you inflict a more servear punishment upon them then by any other way but Sarah you must always make them mind you and thay will always / respect you for it and incurage them always in what is right and good and you do need to fear the future I am glad Addeline is so near hir meeting for she dose not have to walk so far as she youst to when you lived to the wire So Mother is going to Dighton to make her summer visit I hope she will have a plesant time and return in better health by so doing I am glad Emely comes to see you for she is one of my old friends and I shall always respect hir for hir kindness towards you in my abcence and then thire is poor Liddia she is left alone and so you must go and see hir and chear hir up all you can and give hir my best respects and tell hir I think of hir often Sarah do not stay in the house to much but go out and take the air all you can for it will be good for you and you need proper execise in the open air I hope we shall have good nuse from Vixburg soon I think Hooker will make a move with this army soon and that this rebellion be brocken down by faull give my respects to John Eddy when you see him and tell him I have not forgotten him yet and that I feel his kindness towards you and me and always shall So Sarah I have writen you a curious letter for as I sead in the beginning I had not much to wright I have not got any letter from Father yet I hope he will write me soon send me some more postage stamps for thay are scerce hear and I hope to sell them love to all yours Joseph
