Sarah A. Nichols
Sarah A. Nichols (maiden name: Austin) was born around 1833 in Taunton, Massachusetts, to Stephen and Dinah Austin. She grew up and attended school in Taunton, and she married Joseph H. Nichols on June 12, 1856. They had at least four children: Henry, born around 1857; Fannie, born around 1859; Ellen, born around 1871; and Mary, born around 1874. They lived in Taunton, and her husband earned a living as a clerk. Her husband died on October 17, 1875. She applied for a widow’s pension in June 1877 and eventually received one. She remained in Taunton with her children, and she died there of a bowel ulceration on December 6, 1888.
