Dear Father
My object of writing to you at this time is to get some money I expected to be paid of hear as I was musterd in hear it apears thay sent to all of the Reg. for our descriptive list but ours did not come thire is onely two of us hear that belongs to the 22 Mass so you see I did not get any money but the 2nd Maine boys was paid of and was all going down town and as we had been together and got aquainted one of them lent me five Dollars so I went with them / yesterday and have gust got back thirefore I want you to send me ten Dollars plese send Govement money the Govement ows me most five monts pay and when my descriptive list comes I can get four monts of it we went in all the publick buildings and saw a good meny old rellicks and it done me good for it is all most one year scence I have had a day that I could call my own
Father our army is doing nobely at this time and I hope that this rebelion will be put down soon I think I shall go back to my Reg. / soon my troble is the piles I am in pane in my parts most of the time and am week in my legs but I do not want to come home untill this war is over if I stay one more year I shall get seventy five Dollars and a [?] warrent I have asked for a furlow but it may be douptfull wheather I obtain one or not I saw Capt Bliss of the 7th Reg yesterday he was wounded in the Battol of Fredickburg in May at the stone wall whire we had sixty one taken out of our Reg. last faull in a fue moments he told me that Capt Bartlet the furm of / Bartlet and Potter of Taunton was kiled and Lieut. John Church was wounded in the hand at Port Hutson so our noble boys one after another falls in this glorious causs We are doing somthing at Charleston and I hope we will take that plase soon Mead is after Lee and I hope Grant and Mead will be befor Richmond [faded] and [faded] must faull but thire is some hard fighting to be done yet when it becoms my lot to be in any ingagement I will do all I can with out faltering I wrote Sarah last week and also to you but have received no answer yet you will go home next month and I hope you will have a good
