Salem May 18th 1862
Dear parents
and to all of you This morning finds me enjoying good health I am tuffer this spring than I ever was before in my life I have not had even as much as a head ake and you know I some times have that I have worked most 8 weeks now every day not one leasure day have I had they / was two or three days of rainey weather but he sat me to shelling corn with the corn sheller and that is no easy work I tell you but I dont care what he sits me at now but the first two weeks come some hard I tell you I did not no how he wanted any thing done or whare any thing was but now I dont care I can do just as much work as any / of them and more but I shant hurt my self to work I never worked so stedy before but I dont mean to loose a day if I can help it. the more I work the easyer it seams to me. you wanted to no what I was doing I have had the pleasure of drawing stone 2 weeks stedy you might no that by the writing for my hands ar so sore I can hardly hold the pen but 2 more days will finish drawing stone and then I shall plow the feel for corn there is 15 akers of it / and we have drawed the stone all of of it he is late about his corn for some people has planted corn now I will tell you the spring work we have done he has got 12 akers of wheat 15 akers of oats 10 akers of flax 10 akers of potatoes besids 15 akers of rye he sowd last fall but he has had three teemes part of the time you wanted to no how I liked the folks and you sayed I did not say any thing about Mr arnolt but I like him first rate he use me well as I wish to be use Ira
