Dear parrents & all
As Wallace was writing to you I thought I might as well put in a few words too I am well & injoying myself first best I have just been in wallaces tent plagueing him when he was writing you know how he ust to say when I botherd him, now gall ding it all
 
I received a letter from you last night the one you and Sarah Ann wrote together It is very nice wether here now without much rain Mother you wanted to know if I had washed / my shirts yet yes I have a number of times and you spoke about my socks if they had got any holes in them No there just as good as they was when I come from home you spoke about sending me a box of stuff I dont want you to send me any for I have plenty of vituals we have pancakes & honey & pork & beef & so on We dont draw honey nor flour but we just go in to houses and take it John Collidge will bring in more stuff then you can think Dan says tell you he is eating a hard tack and he says he is coming home for he say no bullet can / kill him Alfred says tell you he is all right Mother I am getting so lazy I can hardly write & Mother I guess I shall get ust to riding horse for I am in the sadle good share of the time But I like it it dont tire me
 
Mother I have been very luckey ever since I started Soldiering comes just as easy to me as any thing I ever was in I can ride just as well as the best of them take no trouble about me I will favor my self as much as I can tell Franks folks / Edy is fat as a pig and hapy as a lark
