Dear and Beloved Wife it is with the greatest respect and with due reverence that i take this opertunity of adressing you these few lines to you to let you know that i am still in the land of the living and in hopes of Eternal Life and a home in heaven But i know that i doo and say many thins that i had not ought to i hope to have pardon for it if i truly repent i hope this will find you all in the best kind of health and in good spirits But i know your trials and what you under go or think that i doo i know that the time seames longer to you than to me all though it is now over 6 months since i have even spoke to a woman and i tell you i long to be at home in your company i cant hardly tell how it would go to eat at a table with the wom kind for i have only eat at the table 3 times since i come into the Service of my Country But hope eat with you before long and may the god that rules the sky grant my request for i long to se you all and thare is not a hower that i dont know think of you all and i often of poor litel Mary how she ron and cried after me when i come away Poor litel thing i often thought of her But i hope again to see her before long thare is at present a tolerable good prospect of our geting out But it may be that we will not get home for a month or more for the way that the old men are mustered out that will be some time yet But live in hopes and trust in the Lord write often as you can and i will write as often as i can send it out to you and may the Lord preserve you and keep you all is my petition you must kneed money but i have not got my pay yet

We are still layin our old camp we gow out about 3 times a week over the diferent roads patrolling the we was out for that purpos and took in 6 Johnies thare was to many of them for us and we had to back water & return to camp But the day that We come back they caught Texas from the 17th Army Core and the 23d and i hear that they lost 1000 killed and wounded and to day i herd that they took 1500 hundred prisnors from them and 1000 thousand wagons But i cant say as for that knot knowing but think that to large a number 4 or 5 hundred may be nearer the thing i cant tell
