Sarah Clodfelder was born around 1844 in Indiana to David Luther Clodfelder and Mahala Harrison. Her father was a farmer who owned $1,600 of real estate and $400 of personal property by 1860. The family moved to Oxford, Iowa sometime in the early 1850s. She married William J. Huff on August 20, 1863, and they had at least nine children: Ella, born around 1864; Arthur, born around 1867; Olive, born around 1871; Laura, born around 1875; Alvero, born around 1877; Lavern, born around 1879; Clifford, born around 1882; Cleveland, born around 1884; and Juanita, born around 1888.
The family lived in Oxford, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1870, they owned $1,400 of real estate and $700 of personal property. A decade later, they were living in Iowa City, and her husband was working as a special deputy sheriff. William died on May 20, 1907, and Sarah secured a widow’s pension soon afterward. She remained in Iowa City, and by 1925, she was living in her daughter Juanita’s household. She died there on July 26, 1929.
