Camp 28th Iowa
Camp Russell Va. Dec. 10th/64
Dear Sade,
I have now the pleasure of seating myself to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am in good health and fine spirits. We are here in temperary winter Quarters at this time but how long we will remain here is more that I can say at this time. last night snow fell to the depth of from 8 to 12 inches, still snowing / the health of the Regiment is generally good. I am at a loss to know why I do not recieve any letters from you, it has now been some four weeks since I had the last letter from you. Some time ago you asked me if I was Captain of company “E,” at that time I was not, but as I told you in answer to that note I had then been recommended for that position and since then I have received my commission as / Captain in Co. “E,” from the Governor of the State of Iowa. and have been mustered “out” and in again as capt. 2-E. that is I have been discharged as an enlisted man and mustered in as Captain) and will take command of the company this Day. I have as yet not heard from John Andrews. Give my best wishes to all, answer soon as this comes to hand.
Yours Ever True
