Lt Emory Gibbson
Dear Sir
You favor was recived, and am very sory to state that yous tow men are now kild and burried on this side of the river. they ware five of your men in companion with Mr Joseph Leaton, at a dance and at three oclock this morning they disapeard from the dance, and four of them knock at Mr A. F. Wulffs door and as he askt what they wantet, and they ansewrd him in a fraindly way and askt him for hospitality untill morning and told him that it cold and as Mr Wulff opent the door tow of them walkt in and caught said Mr Wulff by the hair and forsde him out of the door and by so doing he let out a crey for help and by so doing they precented him tow pistols and told him to stop that ales they would kill him, and then took him along and as hise wife let out loud creys and woke / up the naborse and askt for help and I felt it my dutey to order the citicons to go after Mr Wulff, not with the intension to fight nor kill eny body, but as the men caught up with them they askt for Mr Wulff, and the first thing they don was to git out thare pistoles and shot at one of my citicens and came very near killing him tow of your men cept up a regular fire and the other tow that came behind them and killd one of my men, thees four ware the only ones that showd fight and the other one run thrue the bushes with Jo Leaton and escapet and allso the tow that came behinde ecapet if had given up the man, and would have shot first thare would have nothing hapent the ballance of the particulars you will finde out by the comanding officer at fort Davis
