Dear Father & Mother
As I have just got around from a very hard march of four days I will write you a few lines so you will know I am well we have been on a raid over the mountains in to western verginia was gone four days we expected a fight but did not see a rebel Mother I should like to tell you all about the march but I cant write it as well as I could tell you if I was thare we had very nice wether all of the time we was gone but a very hard road to travul for a horse / I saw some queer things going over the mountain thare was one gap whare there was just room enough for four horses to go threw and on each side it was as much as forty feet high they called it patient gap but I got around all right but was some tired after riding so far but as long as I am well I dont care how much they march Wallace is well he did not go with us on that march his horse was not fit to go
 
Mother I have been fixing my close to day I have mendid my pants and blouse and change my shirts so you see I am cleen / I can mend as well as some women Mother tell uncle Bily that Sy is well for I had a letter from him last night and he wanted I should send his letters to him that was here so I did send them this morning he is to [?] Camp in MD I have not seen Eph latly the last I heard from him he was sick but I guess he has got better I expect he will come in to this reg now before long
 
Father how dose that colt look is he nice as he was when I let you have him I must close for Olvin wants to go to bed Ira A Torrance
