Dear Mother and all
As I have a little time I will answer you kind letter wich I received yesterday and was glad to find that thread you sent for it come in play we have been on a nother raid up the valley and found the rebs and they charged on us before day light in the morning some of us had not got our saddles on but we made them run after we got straightend around we have not gone in to winter quarters yet but expect to soon /
Mother you spoke about sending us a box of stuff we have enough to eat but it would not go bad after all you sayd Dan Torrance had got home has he come home to stay
Mother I think the war is about to end Sherman has got Savania and probly he will take Charleston next so I think by spring it will close
Mother Owen Burton is dead so we hear here that is to bad for he was a good boy I tell you /
Mother I cant write much this time for they say we are a going to moove early in the morning we are a going in to winter quarters so they say So you need not expect many letters untill we get our houses up and then I will give you as many as you can read But I thought I would write a few lines so you would know I was well I dont think you had better be in a hurry about sending that box / because it will do us no good untill we get in to winter quarters the Jay boys are all well excepting Eph he is not very well I was not very well last week but I am all right now
