Dear Father & Mother
I will now cetch a little time to ans your letters wich was received last night I was glad to hear your health was better then it was last sumer Mother the reason I have not writen latly was that we have been puting up our winter quarters and we have to put up the head quarters so you see we have some work to do But we have got them most up and then we shall not have much to do So I will give you letters enough / to read then My health is good as ever and nothing to trouble me as long as you are well and the rest Mother it is very cold here to day but I have not got a good fire in my fire place I supose you will be suprised to see wallace pop in and as glad to see him as you will to see any body I will bet I was glad to see him go home for he has been gone a long time tell him to eat some apples for me and I will eat some hard tacks for him Ephraim has been sick but he has got most well wall Mother thare is a nother call for 300,000 what do you think of that do you think it will take me / I dont think I am liable to that draft do you Mother I think this war will close before long It never looked more favorable since it first broke out Mother you need not worry about me for I have got clothes enough to keep me warm and a very good little shanty or it will bee when we get it done
I have not got any more time to write now so you must excuse me this time
