March 4th 1865
 
Dear Father & Mother
This morning I will write you a few lines stating that wallace is wounded but very slight I saw him this morning just as he was leaving on the boat I expect he has gone to washington I did not know he was wounded till last night he found out I was here so he sent for me and this morning I started as soon as day light but had a good / deal of difaculty in getting whare he was I run the guard and just got thare and spoke to him he sayd it was not a bad wound so you need not worry about him for he is better of then them that is to the regiment It was a peace of a shell that hit him in the breast I am glad that it is no worse then it is I cant hear any thing from our company and wallace did not know It is reported that they are all taken prisoners but I dont believe it I know thare is not any wounded here / from our company for I have been all threw the Hospitals I dont know when I shall go to the reg Every day they say we will go to morrow but I dont care when they send me Mother I saw men this morning that was wounded in most every spot It was a hard sight Some with arms off and legs off Oh it was a horible sight But I think it will soon be over for we have got Richmond & Peters Burgh and any amount of prisoners they are coming in here all of the time /
I dont get no mail from home and shant probly till I get to the reg
