White house landing
March 24th 1865

Dear father & mother
with the greatest pleasure this morning I will write you a few lines to let you know I am well and also the rest of the boys Wallace has gone to dismounted camp his horse played out and thare was about two thirds of the regiment horses played out but mine come threw all right but was some stiff as well as my self
you probly see in the papers all about this raid so I will not try to give a history but we was 20 / days on the march day and night and was all the time in the confedirate land I was glad when we got here I tell you but whare we shall go from here is more then I can tell but I think we will join Sherman The rebs have not got only one rail road now to get suplies to Richmond we tore up all of the rest for miles and distroied the canall on the James river So I think they will have to get out of thare before many days If they dont Sheridan will cut that Danvill road so he will starve to death I think this sumer will wind up this rebelion

I got 13 letters last night so I had somthing to do to read them all I had not had any before since I left camp The wether is quite nice here now the mud has all dried up and the grass begins to start so it looks like spring I supose you have got some snow thare yet It will soon be time to sugar thare I would like to be thare to eat some warm sugar but I can get along with out if it will do any good to put down the rebellion I would willingly stay two years if it would stop this war It is time it was ended and I / cincerly believe it will end in less then six month I must close I am in hopes I shall get some more mail to day Mother I drew my pay yesterday so you see I am rich once more

good by for this time

From your ever true Son
Ira
