Dear Mother
I will write you a few lines so you will know I am well you see I have mooved I told you when I was to Peters burgh we was a going to washington wall we have got in sight of it So you see we are a good deal nearer home then we was for it took seven days to march here But we had the priviledge of going through Richmond and a number of other places It is no wonder that so many died in liby prison it is a hard / looking plase and a nasty looking hole
 
I dont know how long we will stay here nor any thing about it I saw in the papers that they ware a going to discharge all of the Soldiers that there times is out before the first of Oct I must close this time for I have got a good deal to do to day
