Dear Father & Mother
As I now have time I will write to you we have just been out on drill and I like it very much altho it is very tiresom but I expected it would at first We have not drew our sabres yet and probly shant untill we get to washington. the air is very cool here to day makes it very comforble Cyrel has been here to day but thay wont let him join our company because he is a supstitute and they will send him whare ever they have a mind We are having a good time with all the privlyges / a man could ask for with anough to eat & drink & ware Mother you need not wory about me for I am well & enjoying my self first-rate I bunk with Sy and he feels like a colt. I dont know how long we shall stay here but I hope we shall stay here untill we get drilld. Mr Gibson is our commander and a very nice man. he is very kind to us Jay boys. perhaps it is becaus he knows no Luis Flagg is in this company he bunks with W Bull I am looking for Ephraim to come if he enlisted but I dont know whether he did or not
Mother has Still & lise got home I can see on to the Island whare they are but cant get there How is it about the draft have they filled out there quota. did they raise the bounty to 800. if they did write and tell me
