Freehold
Camp Fredenburgh Aug 22/62
Dear Mother
I have an opportunity of writing you a few lines. I am in excellent heath, and have a first rate appetite and first rate spirits I must go to dinner now so I will wait until afterwards & write a little more. I have had my dinner so you may think that I feel a great eal better, and if you dont I do. I hope this finds you well as I am I commenced a letter to you this morning & was going to send it by mail, but I had the happiness of seeing John. I dont supose I need have written but I thought I must tell just how I was getting along. we have a nice lot of Boys in my tent all officers but two non commission / I rank as second Sergt and it suits me first rate as it clears me of all guard duty I retire at 9 Oclock, every light has to be put out at that hour. I like camp life first rate we have a splendid Regiment we each take turns in reading we read a chapter in the Testament & a prayer every night and morning. dont worry about me mother Ill get along first rate.
so I must close as my time is up for drill
From Your Ever dear & affectionate Son
Albert
P.S. You need not write mother until I write to you again
Farewell
Give my Love to your neighbors and all
I wrote a note to Libbie
