Albert C. Harrison to Cornelia Harrison, 30 August 1862
Camp Fredenburgh Aug 30th 62
Dear Mother
As I have an opportunity of sending you a few lines personally, I will endeavor so to do. Mother I am in excellent health and in excellent spirits I expect we will leave here next monday morning and we look forth with joy for its coming. we had a parade in Freehold yesterday and won approbation and praise from the Public. I hear you are well and by the blessing of God long may you continue so. I have received my $25 and I send you 20 of it I have $5 of the other left / so $10 will be enough for me. dont worry mother I will get along all right. I thought of coming down this week but I couldn't for longer than 24 hours so it was best for me not to because I would be all the time going and coming. I dont know where we shall go yet but I will write as soon as we encamp I think it will be in Alexandria. dont think that I dont like this life because I do, better than ever. I saw Mrs Bergen yesterday. Red Bank must be diserted to-day I guess by the looks of things up here. there is a piece of every body up here to-day ha ha ha. remember me to / John and give my Love to Libbie tell her to keep a good heart. I havnt time to say any thing more one thing, if you get hard up Mother you may use that money. Give my best respects to all
From your ever dutiful Son
Albert C. Harrison
I will write to you and Libbie soon. tell her I saw Kate as we was marching along yesterday in Freehold and waved my hand but I dont know whether she knew me or not she looked pretty sharp though I am all rigged out now and I send down an undershirt and pair of drawers for I / cannot carry them. I may have a chance to write you again between now and Monday. I expected a letter from Libbie to-day but havn't received it yet. we have two or three baskets of provisions and about a bushel of peaches in our tent saying nothing of melons
I must close
Albert
may God bless you
