Dear Mother
As I am of duty at present I must scratch you a few lines to inform you that we have arrived at our destination. as you may see by the above I suppose you know we started last Tuesday well such was the fact and we have arrived in the land of Secesh and I thank God that I can say I am enjoying excellent health and by his kind providence I hope you are able to say the same of yourself. I will try and give the details of our trip. well after leaving the Old Camp Fredenburgh which was a day of pleasure to us all / we arrived in Philadelphia at about six O'clock the same night we were introduced to the Soldiers relief society where we had a hearty supper. then we repaired to the cars again, and started about 12 Oclock and arrived in Baltimore, about 9 Oclock Wednesday morning, but before I go any farther I must speak a word about the citizens of Philadelphia. the streets were thronged with women and children to such an extent that we could scarcely make our way through the crowd but I must commence where I left off with our journey as I have but little time to spare. well we left Baltimore about 9 Oclock Wednesday / night, but before we left there was quite an excitement one Railroad station burned down some thought it was done by secesh as nearly one half the population of Baltimore are secesh I think by their looks, the stars & stripes floats over every part of the city, but you know there are often wolves in sheeps clothing I guess it is the case there. we arrived here this morning (Thursday) at about 6 O'clock. it is a beautiful place and I think a very healthy place there is a small river runs near our camp and a splendid railroad bridge crosses the river near the junction which is guarded by 3 pieces of Union Artilery which came today /

I havn't time Mother to write any more at present I will give you further particulars next time I write which will be as soon as I can I simply write to let you know where we are so you can write to me give my love to Libbie tell and her folks tell her I havn't time to write her at present but will answer her letter as soon as I can but she must write to me for she has more time than I have remember me to John tell him I am not sorry I learned the trade Give my love to all receive a portion for yourself write immediately will you mother for I am anxious to hear from you all
