My Dear Mother
This thanksgiving day evening I shall devote in answering your letter which was duly recd by me. thank God Mother this Thanksgiving day finds me in the best of health, although I dont get any chicken, ha, ha. but I hope Dear Mother you have enjoyed yourselves, but you could have enjoyed yourselves better no doubt if I had been in your midst, but it was not so to be. but God grant before another thanksgiving day shall pass around again, these wars may be brought to an end and / we may again return to our friends and once happy home but made unhappy by wars wide desolation. You must not worry about me Mother for let us remember that all things work together for good to them that love God. it has been almost like a Sunday with us this afternoon. this morning we had to drill, but I say we. I didn't drill as the Captain wanted me to do some writeing in some of Uncle Sams books, but this afternoon he gave me clear and as there was to be a lecture delivered by our Chaplain at 3 O'clock the most of the Regiment was in attendance. the lecture was a short one but it was to the point. it was held out doors / and it was rather chilly was one reason he didn't make a very lengthy speech

I received a letter from Aunt Clemmy tonight she said she had taken hold of a sheet of paper several times to write to me, but some body would come in and bother her and then it was dropped again. you know mother I said in one of my letters that I expected Aunt Clemmy had company was the reason she didn't write, and such proved to be the case. she says Uncle Henrys Uncle is staying with them awhile. he is from Lake Erie. I received a letter from Amos Wood last night he is in good health. he says Joe Dennis is in the Hospital yet but is gaining slowly we are prepared now for / the coming winter. I dont see any thing of the paymaster yet. the Red Bank boys keep remarkably well. God grant that we may keep so there are three of us seated around my box writing to their friends. I must try and write to Amos in answer to his letter, so I shall have to soon bring this to a close I hope dear Mother this will find you in better health but before I close mother I must tell you that Doctor Kimball from Eatontown has been down to see us I had quite a talk with him. he said he would see you and tell you know that he saw me. I must close mother bidding you a good night and a happy thanksgiving. give my love to John and all enquiring friends—
