Prepared to move
Dear Mother, We are likely to move at any moment. I have had my breakfast and thinks I to myself I will sit down and perhaps I will have time to write you a few lines to inform you that I received the two Standards & writing material and am now writing with one of the pencils. it writes first rate I see you are a good judge of lead pencils. (I thank you) It promises a very warm day but it will be fine under foot for marching as we had a heavy rain night before last and a shower yesterday. I havn't the least idea where we / are going. I tell you Mother I had a fine time reading last night nor did I stop until I had drained all the news from both the papers. The Boys have their traps all packed their blankets rolled and laying of ready to fall in as soon as the command is given and as I have paper I will write as soon as we again bivouac, and inform you why this move takes place, for we had thought of laying off here for a month. I wrote to Aunt Clemmy day before yesterday for the first time I think since we left Maryland Heights. Sergt Foster sits beside me reading the Standard. here comes / Charlie White. he wishes to be remembered. Eseck sends his best respects to you and John. he wants John to come around this way with the stage and he will ride, ha, ha. tell John to come down some sunday when we havn't anything to do, and take us down to the Branch for we havn't been down there this summer, ha, ha. and that isn't the worst of it, ha ha). give my love to all enquiring friends and when you write let me know if Corp Byram has any recruits. I heard he was riding around with a young Lady by name Miss King, big thing. (Rhyme) he must be recruiting the / young Ladies. well I cannot blame him. remember me to Major. tell I dont care if I do take a plate of ice cream. How is Daniel Thompsons family. I hear some of them are quite sick. please let me know, as Dan likes to hear as often as he can. well I have written my letter before we have had the order to fall in so I will get my envelope directed and put it in the mail bag. so bid you good bye for the present. write soon Direct as before, with much love I remain your most obedient Son Albert
