Tuesday Aug 4th 1863
Dear Mother
I will now sit down and finish my letter I commenced it last Sunday you will see and here it is tuesday morn about 10 oclock. I wrote a little night before last while I was on guard, and the mail went out in the morn before I could get my letter in the bag and this morning we had to move about half a mile to where the ammunition train was laying. Sergt Foster and I have taken our quarters under a big pine tree. the commissary is giving out rations, so I must / stop & get my hard tack.
I have got my Tack & now I will finish my letter and get it of today if such a thing is possible Charlie White wishes to be remembered to you all. I hope this may find you by the help of the Lord enjoying good health, as it leaves me. if you send me paper Mother slip in a lead pencil it will come through all safe. you can put in an envelope that way once in a while but dont forget the pencil please
I now close may God bless you dear Mother, your Loving Son Albert
