My Dear Mother
I seat myself this sabbath morning the first day of a new month to pen you a few lines. I expected a letter from you yesterday but I received none. I hope you are not sick again This is the first chance I have had to write a letter in three or four days, as I am acting Orderly Sergt in the place of H G Conover. it keeps me busy the most part of the time either writing accounts or some other duties that constitute the position of first Sergt. in fact their is always some thing to be done. Tell John I know just what an orderlys position is now. it is just the hardest office in the Co. to fill. Our late orderly has been promoted to a second Lieut in Co. H. therefore it leaves a vacancy in our Company and one I dont wish to fill our next orderly has not been elected yet but I am in hopes he will be soon, as I want to fall back to my / old posish as second Sergt.

My health is excellent with the exception of a slight cold, which does not in the least affect my appetite, for I can despatch my rations regularly. The Red Bank boys are all well & send their love to you. I was down to their tent some half an hour ago, and they were washing and shaving at a great rate some of them said they were going down to Red Bank to church, but I couldn't exactly believe them, ha, ha

The weather is quite fair this morning but we have had an awful snow storm, the largest snow we have had this winter & the deepest one therefore we have not drilled much for a week or so back. Eseck is on guard today. he has just come in to get his dinner. he sends his love to you. who do you think has been here to see us, why Uncle Henry Wolcott. he came down to see Elijah Potter & thought he would come on and see the 14th he took dinner with us. none of us knew he was coming so you see it was a surprise he knew me as it happened, says he, / is this Albert Harrison. I told him it was he told me that you & Belle were up and staid all night with them a few weeks ago. Walter Reynolds was with him. they left here in the afternoon of the same day. I received a letter from Bloomfield Wolcott yesterday. he says they are well around Eaton Town girls included of course. There isn't much signs of our getting paid off as I can see It is now dinner time. I shall have to come to a close. give my love to all write soon

From your affectionate Son in the
Army Sergt Albert C. Harrison
