My Dear Mother
I am sitting with pen in hand trying to study up something to write you. I must tell you for one thing that the Paymaster has arrived and paid us off again this afternoon. So I am going to send $20 in this letter if it comes all right and if it does not let me know ha, ha.
I am going to put $10 in another letter & send them both tomorrow morning. I thought at first I would express it, but then I changed my mind again and thought I would send it by mail. so Mother you must write as soon as you receive / it & then I will be contented I hope this finds you all well as it leaves me. The boys are all well at the same time I send you a record of the Company with the Staff & Field officers. I mail that at the same time, hoping you will receive them all together. give my love to John and all enquiring friends your other letters were received by me. I was sorry to hear that Mrs Vanness has lost her birds
I must close this and say a few words in the other letter
From your loving Son
