My Dear Mother
I seat myself this evening to pen you a few lines in answer to your kind & affectionate letter which was received by me through the kindness of Sergt Chadwick who arrived in camp last night about 8 o clock safe, sound & well. I was glad to see him back again I assure you and happy to hear that things are going on well in Red Bank, and also glad to hear that you were well. I received the handkerchief, tobacco & segars and thank you & John very much for them and gave Eseck the tobacco Conny sent him. he is well as usual & sends his kind regards. The boys are having a great time tonight snow balling. a volley of balls comes against the tent once in a while, makes everything rattle again
I have received a letter from Dr Champlain. He informed me of the whereabouts of S.E.W. Johnson, and I intend writing to him the earliest / opportunity. He is at New Orleans
Chadwick said he voted once. he says the general talk in Jersey is that the war in will end in three months thats a large thing, but I cannot see it. although I am in hopes it will prove true and will not feel in the least worried if it does not prove true. so you see Mother, that I am perfectly independent.
I was on guard last Sunday and dear me, what a night we had. it snowed, rained & hailed for about three hours. the snow being on the ground has hindered us from drilling both yesterday & today & I think it will be to muddy to drill tomorrow
I am daily looking for a letter from Aunt Clemmy. I am in hopes Uncle John will come down to see us before he goes home. I will be careful as you say and not put to much soap on my shirts as you said.
I have nothing more to say tonight. I close hoping this may find you & John well as it leaves me. give my love to him and all enquiring friends
I believe I have nothing more to say this time. give my love to John, write soon bear me in remb remembrance to all whom feel interrested in the welfare of Albert. May God bless you all my friends
