Dear Mother & Father,
As I have an opportunity this morning I must sit down a pen you a few lines for I dont mind writing when I can find anything to write about. I suppose the first thing you wish to know is how I am getting along, and how my health is. so I will inform you now, that my health has returned. I can say that I feel first rate. I am getting fat again. there is nothing like laying of once in a while and playing of gentleman, ha, ha, ha.
We received marching orders last Sunday. we were to be / prepared for a light march with overcoats and blankets, at ten minutes notice. I tell you we were in high glee to think we were going to move, so nothing of importance much happened on Sunday to assure us that we would leave, any more than we were to be ready. we have received such orders before, so we could not place much confidence in it until monday monday morning orders came that we were to move, and such another time you never saw, giving three cheers and a hubbub in general. Then the Colonel said two companies were to stay here. they must be the two left companies G and B. Well if Captain Allstrom didn't rage its / a caution, but it couldn't be helped. he said to some of the men, say's he, go in your tents and go to bed and get sick, ha, ha, ha
But yesterday he cooled down considerable. he said they we had either got out of a scrape or into one he didn't know which.
So the six companies with the 151st Regiment New York from Baltimore left here Monday afternoon, as they thought for Harpers Ferry, but one of the men came back to camp yesterday and said they had arrived at their destination for the present on Maryland Heights, near Harpers Ferry. They dont know whether they will stay there, go on farther, or come / back again, but I am in hopes they will not come back again but send us on. We will know in a few days what they will do. We have our own fun here all alone Capt Allstrom is acting Col, Capt Craig Lt Col and the privates are all Corporals, ha, ha, ha.
We dont having any drilling to do, nothing but guard duty. Well we have things our own way in general. The boys are all well. George White wishes to be remembered to you, write soon, and if anything more transpires I will with the first opportunity. I must now close my letter as I want to go a fishing, but I reckon I will have fishermans luck. I suppose you know what that is. give my love to all the neighbors, and enquiring friends /
and may God bless you all and keep you from all harm. remember in your prayers and I will do the same
Your Son Albert with love
