Albert C. Harrison to Cornelia Harrison, 24 May 1863
Camp Hooker, May 24th 1863
Sabbath evening.
Dear Mother
I dont think I can pass the time any more pleasantly than in dropping you a few lines. Therefore I seat myself for said purpose. There is no news mother of very much importance still I shall try and compose a few lines. The companies have all returned from Martinsburgh, Va. they came last night. It has been very lively around the old camp again today. But the boys didn't like the idea of coming back much for they liked their quarters / first rate. my health is first rate again mother I feel fine I tell you. I think now I will stand it far better through the warm season than I would if I had not been sick, for now I can begin anew. my appetite is good but I am very careful not to overload my stomach. I take a bath every day and feel as strong now as I ever felt. In my last letter I told you I had not received any letter from you in some time and I have not received any yet, but I feel sure you must have written, and the letters have been misplaced or rather miscarried.
The boys are all well Corp. Charlie White sends his best respects. Eseck is in my tent. he is well and sends his best respects. give my love to John and bear me in sweet remembrance to all your neighbors and enquiring friends. But I must now bring my short letter to a close hoping to hear from you soon. it is time for roll call. there the drums are beating so I bid you a good night. may the Lord bless you all my friends pray for me, and I will do the same.
Your loving and ever affectionate Son in the Army. Albert. /
