Albert C. Harrison to Cornelia Harrison, 27 May 1863
Camp Hooker, May 27th 1863

Dear Mother
As I have an opportunity this morning before drill, I will drop you a few lines in answer to your letter which was received by me yesterday, and as I was on guard I have had no time to write until now. My health is excellent as usual and am still gaining in strength. Corporal Prickett returned to camp in safety and informed me that he saw you and you looked very well. I was glad to hear it

We were paid of yesterday and I will send $20. in this letter. I said I would send $25 but I think I had better keep a small amount on hand, in case we should move from here or anything turn up. The Boys are all well Charlie White sends his best respects as well as T. S. Diblin There is no news of any importance the boys are in high glee since they have been paid. I want to go to Frederick this evening if I can get a pass, and get me a pair of shoes. I still stick to the boots. The weather is fair this morning. I thought when I went to bed last night we would have some rain before morning. But it / did not rain a drop, but still we need rain very much. the roads are very dry as well as our camp ground. Our beloved Colonel was presented by the Line officers with a splendid sword. the old gentleman was highly tickled; I tell you Mother the men do love that man, whenever he comes in camp. the Boys are all ready when he drives in to give him three hearty cheers. please write mother as soon as you receive this for I shall want to know if it went safe. I received your two standards. I was glad to hear Sammy and Homey Hendrickson was able to raise wages. three Dollars makes some little difference in the course of a year. $36 it will almost pay your years rent.

I dont think Uncle Sam will raise our wages, ha, ha. Genl Grant is giving the rebs fits out west. I wish they would do as well on the Potomac, but all things work together for good to them that love and serve God let us then pray fervently and have faith that our prayers will be heard and answered. give my love to John and all enquiring friends May God bless you all, and now I / must bring my letter to a close, hoping earnestly it may find you well.

Your Son with love
