Camp Hooker, May 29th /63

Dear Mother
As I have a few leisure moments this morning before drill, I will sit down and drop you a few lines in answer to your letter of the 26th received by me on yesterday. I was very happy to hear from you again. There is no news of any importance therefore I cannot write you a very lengthy letter any more than to inform you that I am enjoying excellent health I feel first rate every way and earnestly hope this may find you and John enjoying the same blessings as well as all my friends in the vicinity of Red Bank. I received a short letter from T. C. Hendrickson and I must try and write him a few lines today if I have the opportunity. The boys are all well Corp. Wm H. Byram has just stepped in my tent he sends his best respects.

It is a beautiful morning with a cool breeze agoing. I was up to the city last evening. it was quite lively. I suppose you have received my letter by this time with the $20.

Corp Prickett told me that Miss King and Mr Parker were to be married. tall thing that. right smart. came very near / being brother and sister. But not so bad as Mr and Mrs Covert how are they getting along? I heard she hadn't much custom now. give my love to John and bear me in sweet remembrance to all the neighbors and enquiring friends and now it is almost time for drill and I must bring my short letter to a close hoping to hear from you soon. May God bless you all.

I remain ever affectionately
Your Son Albert with love
