Dear Mother
It is the Sabbath sweet day of rest. I must sit right down and pen you a few lines for I expect company this morning and when they arrive there will be no chance for writing as it will take two hours for me to prepare dinner. the expected guests are the Honorable Danl Thompson Sergt Wm H. Foster and Joseph W. Hartshorne, so / Mother you see I will be obliged to have everything in pot pie order.
I am going to have a pork, beef & potatoe & onion stew, and I can just make one of them things a little extra. I will invite you to take dinner with me but I dont suppose you will accept the invite.
The morning is clear and cold with about two inches of snow on the ground. when last I wrote you I was busy building stables. yesterday I finished roofing mine, but it will take two or three days before we can get it stockaded in front, and / the openings chincked and mudded up. There has been no inspection of the Train this morning, it is so cold the Officers hate to leave their fire sides. Lieut Tabor commanding our Brigade inspected our quarters. he thought I had a pretty good New Years. well Mother I have just had a good time eating sausages & buckwheat cakes. I forgot to mention the celery it kept first rate. I keep it in water & it keeps hard. the puddings were splendid. I will write to Aunt H. as soon as I can get the time.
Elec is at work pealing / potatoes. there is no news hereabouts worth mention. I believe there is nothing more that I can write you this morning. give my love to John & remember me to any enquiring friends & neighbors. write soon & I remain your ever loving & Affec. Son Albert.
