Dear Mother,
As I now have a few leisure moments I will devote them to writing you a few lines. this morning or rather afternoon for it must be after the hour of 12, but I hav'nt had my dinner yet and we soldiers dont call it afternoon until that meal has been devoured. I am going to have some beans for dinner but I dont know as I shall eat a great many / of them for you know I never cared much for them when at home ha, ha. Well Mother there is nothing new of any account or I should have written you before this. every thing keeps the same old sameness.
But I have one thing to say, that I know will cheer you. there is a great revival of religion going on in our Regiment, many have been brought to a true sense of their condition and given their hearts to God. there is protracted meeting every night through the week, and / interresting they are. God grant that the good work may go on not only in our Regt but may it spread like wild fire throughout the Army and Armies of our Nation. What a Glorious Army if we were all Christians and we need more than ever the prayers of the good people at home, that the good work begun may not end until thousands have been brought to experience a change of heart. if any need a Saviors love, it is the poor Soldier, either home or abroad we are never / safe without the Armor of Salvation.
We have had some very cold weather for the past few days but today it is beautiful & quite moderate, but I cannot write you a lengthy letter as we have Inspection this afternoon at the hour of 4 and I must have my waggons in order & stables clean. my horse was kicked last night but it hasn't lamed him any, one of his hind legs. it is swollen some I have been bathing it with salt & vinegar steeped up. the Boys are all well. I received the paper & note. have you been to the Branch. How are they all? I wrote to Clem /
[front margin]
give my love to John & any enquiring friends & I remain your ever Loving Son Albert C in the Army to his ma mama mamma
